Armen Var

Armenak Vardanyan is an established Armenian sculptor whose masterly approach to form bridges classical monumentality with subtle, contemporary wit. Educated at the prestigious Yerevan Institute of Fine Arts, where he specialized in sculpture, Vardanyan rapidly emerged as a prominent voice in contemporary Armenian art, earning induction into the Artists Union of Armenia. Vardanyan’s practice spans a remarkable range of scale and medium—transitioning seamlessly from monumental outdoor statues to intimate cabinet bronzes, and working across materials as varied as hand-carved marble, stone, and molten bronze. Across his diverse portfolio, his work is defined by refined contours, tactile elegance, and a quiet, poetic humor. Rather than imposing rigid shapes upon his materials, Vardanyan responds to their inherent qualities, crafting sculptures that feel both structural and inherently organic. Throughout his distinguished career, Vardanyan has achieved widespread international recognition. His works are held in premier public institutions and museum collections globally—including the National Gallery of Armenia, the State Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow, the Russian Academy of Fine Arts, and the Dante Museum in Ravenna, Italy—alongside numerous galleries and private collections worldwide.
